The Unison Arena in Rotorua’s Energy Events Centre is to host popular soft rock icons, ‘America’, on Friday December 14 in one of only three shows that the legendary band will perform on their short New Zealand tour.
Legendary band 'America' playing Rotorua's Energy Events Centre on December 14.

For decades ‘America’ has consummately crafted pop/rock songs trademarked with lush harmonies and evocative lyrical landscapes that never go out of style.  They have sung about anonymous horses (1972 platinum hit A Horse With No Name) about mystical powers (You Can Do Magic) and life’s travels (Ventura Highway).

Their huge song chart includes other enduring classics such as I Need You, Don’t Cross the River, Tin Man, Muskrat Love, Lonely People, Sandman, Sister Golden Hair, Woman Tonight, and a host of other hits that have all stood the test of critical time.

It’s been a long ride for original band members and old friends, Dewey Bunnell and Jerry Beckley.  “We’ve grown up in a world of show biz, seen styles change, and seen technology change,” Dewey muses. “But basically Jerry and I have stayed very much the same.  We have the same standards in song writing; we’ve lived pretty full lives and managed to hold onto our sanity although the world seems crazier everyday.”

Event Venues Rotorua general manager, Peter McLeod, says Rotorua is fortunate to get to host the band during their three-concert New Zealand Tour.

“It’s an indication of the growing reputation of our new Energy Events Centre that we’ve been able to entice them to Rotorua.  The band has toured New Zealand before and their concerts have been extremely well supported, so we’re looking forward to a sell-out crowd.”

Mr McLeod said with Christmas just around the corner Event Venues is also offering individuals and corporates a special treat including a pre-concert dinner at the Energy Events Centre followed by the show and then post-concert drinks with chance to meet the band in person.

“Businesses might welcome this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to provide a truly memorable Christmas treat for their staff and clients.”

Tickets are now on sale at the Rotorua Ticketek Office at the Rotorua Convention Centre or by phone 07 350 2244, at Ticketek outlets throughout New Zealand and online at www.ticketek.co.nz

Group discounts are available for parties of 10 or more and individual pre-concert dinner seats or table bookings are also available from Ticketek.

Out of town visitors can secure special concert accommodation rates at the Ibis, Millennium and Sudima Hotels.
