The events centre’s Merit Award in the ‘Tourism and Leisure Property’ category was announced at the Property Council of New Zealand’s annual awards ceremony held at the Vector Arena in Auckland on Friday night [27 June 2008].

Events & Venues Rotorua general manager, Peter Mcleod, said the Energy Events Centre had been nominated jointly by project contractors RDT Pacific and Mainzeal. He said the award was acknowledgement their quality project management and construction, and a tribute to the professionalism of the many organisations and individuals who worked on it.

“We’re very proud of the finished product as the Energy Events Centre has proved to be an overwhelming success, bringing many millions of dollars into the Rotorua economy and providing an outstanding facility for the local community.

“The awards function was a big night for Rotorua and the Events Centre was proud to be recognised in the company of another local organisation, Te Puia, which received an Excellence Award in the same Tourism and Leisure Property category,” said Mr McLeod.

The Property Council of New Zealand is a not-for-profit organisation representing the country’s commercial, industrial, retail, property funds and multi-unit residential property owners and investors.
