Campbell was scheduled to perform outdoors at the city’s International Stadium but Event Venues Rotorua general manager Peter McLeod said advance booking patterns show demand to be overwhelmingly for grandstand seats rather than for open picnic style seating on the grass area.
“As a result, we’ve decided to move the concert to the Energy Events Centre’s Unison Arena where everyone will have a reserved seat and the audience will have a much closer view of the popular performer. It also overcomes the risk of the concert being affected by rain and at the same time provides an opportunity to showcase our versatile Energy Events Centre as New Zealand’s newest entertainment venue.
“Glen Campbell’s New Zealand agent tells us that the American star is very pleased with the move as he has a preference to perform indoors and he recognises that his audiences prefer to see him in the comfort of indoor venues,” says Mr McLeod.
Mr McLeod said fans who have already purchased tickets for the 24 March show at the International Stadium will be contacted by Ticketek about exchanging tickets for reserved numbered seats at the Energy Events Centre.
Doors to the events centre’s Unison Arena will open from 6.30pm and well known New Zealand act, Hamilton County Bluegrass Band, will kick off the concert at 7.30pm.
Glen Campbell fans can expect to hear his string of international hits including By the Time I Get to Phoenix; Galveston; Wichita Lineman; Gentle on My Mind; Try a Little Kindness; and of course his huge hit Rhinestone Cowboy.
He’ll be joined on stage for some of his famous duets by his daughter Debby Campbell, a popular performer in the USA in her own right. Campbell is also is bringing his own professional backing group with him from America.”
Mr McLeod said that people who have not already purchased tickets to the concert should do so without delay as he expects seats at the new venue to be in hot demand.
