A new marketing consortium has been formed by local Rotorua convention and event businesses to promote the city’s new $25m Energy Events Centre.

Royal Lakeside Novotel, Millennium Hotel Rotorua, Skyline Skyrides, Dynamics Audio Visual and Event Impressions are joining forces with Event Venues Rotorua as ‘Premier Marketing Partners’. The businesses in the partnership will be promoted as a single coordinated conference package with a positioning statement declaring: “We’ve got all our ducks in a row.”

Diana Moore, sales and marketing manager for Event Venues Rotorua, says their Premier Marketing Partners have already identified a number of key promotional activities they will be jointly participating in.

“We’re kicking off with a local promotion on May 3 aimed at encouraging our local clubs, associations and other organisations to try and bring their national conferences, tournaments and other events to Rotorua.

“Then in June we’re across the Tasman flying the Rotorua flag at the Asia Pacific Incentives and Meetings Expo (AIME). ‘AIME 2006’ takes place at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre and is Australia’s largest event for the conference and exhibition industry with up to a thousand exhibitors expected from 50 countries.

“In July we’ll be together again in force at ‘Meetings 2006’ in Christchurch for New Zealand’s own major conference and events expo.”

Diana Moore says the Premier Marketing Partners will also be undertaking other marketing and advertising campaigns aimed at building a profile for the new Energy Events Centre amongst professional conference organisors and national associations in New Zealand and Australia.

“It’s really encouraging to have these important Rotorua players coming on board with us to invest in ensuring the future success of the Energy Events Centre. Our early bookings indicate the complex has already captured the imagination of the convention industry throughout New Zealand and we’re trending well ahead of business forecasts.”

The Energy Events Centre is being constructed alongside Lake Rotorua in the city’s Government Gardens and is due to open its doors for business early in 2007.
