Construction of the Rotorua Energy Events Centre could be underway in around 14 weeks if resource consent is granted in early June according to Events Centre Working Party chairman, Peter Guerin.

Chief Executive Peter Guerin
“We’re hopeful we’ll be able to start building in July, and the 12 months construction timetable means we could have the new facility up and running mid way through next year.”

The Events Centre’s resource consent application for the project has been considered by independent commissioner, Alan Withy, who has this week determined that the application should be notified as the next step in the process. Public notification is to commence this weekend.

Meanwhile the Events Centre Working Party is hosting a special public information evening to explain the project to the community.

Mr Guerin said that representatives of the working party’s members – Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust, the district council and Pukeroa Oruawhata Trust – along with project architects, will be in attendance to describe the exciting Events Centre project and what it will mean for Rotorua.

He said the public meeting will be held in the Concert Chamber at the Convention Centre at 5.00pm, Wednesday 13 April, and everyone is welcome to come along.
