Classical singing sensation Paul Potts has announced plans for a short tour of New Zealand next year, with Rotorua, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch chosen as the only stops on his four-concert itinerary.

The Rotorua show will take place on Friday 11 April at the Energy Events Centre.

Potts became an overnight phenomenon in Britain recently. In the space of just seven amazing days he went from selling mobile phones in Wales to winning amateur talent show 'Britain's Got Talent', and signing a one million pound record deal. His version of Puccini's 'Nessun Dorma' impressed the show's judges and received a standing ovation from the audience of 2,000 people. Potts' rendition of this classical piece has been viewed on video upload site 'YouTube' tens of millions of times and is among YouTube's all-time most viewed videos.

It's a real rags to riches tale. Potts was $70,000 in debt, had suffered years of bullying and was recovering from a serious motorbike accident.

Now he has a massive recording contract and a huge singing career ahead of him. His first album 'One Chance' went to number one spot in England and Ireland and is now number one in New Zealand as well.

Event Venues Rotorua general manager Peter McLeod said he was pleased Potts would be performing in Rotorua.

"Clearly the growing reputation, quality facilities and large scale of our new Energy Events Centre complex had been major factors in Rotorua being the only New Zealand city outside the three main centres to host a concert by Paul Potts."

Tickets for the 11 April Rotorua concert are available from Ticketek outlets.
